Become a supporter of the Center for a Healthy Maryland

The Center for a Healthy Maryland is the supporting 501(c)(3) foundation of The Maryland State Medical Society.

The Center’s mission is to EDUCATE and ADVANCE the practice of medicine,
ENHACE the quality of medical care and PROMOTE the health of the citizens of the State of Maryland. A broad mission to be sure, but one which touches all of us.

At a time when philanthropy is increasingly vital, community support has enabled the Center for a Healthy Maryland to not only maintain, but also further expand and enhance our exceptional quality of service to both the medical and general communities.

The Center for a Healthy Maryland’s programs include:

  • The Maryland Physician Health Program which assists, supports and provides advocacy for physicians as part of a confidential process to address conditions that affect their ability to practice medicine. We provide clinical case management and rehabilitation services. The Dan H. McDougal, MD Fund provides grants-in-aid to physicians who are unable to afford the myriad costs associated with rehabilitation and treatment services. Tax-deductible contributions are accepted.
  • The Domestic Violence Program conducts training and technical assistance to health care professionals. It recently began providing Continuing Education Units, and launched a new website, HealthandDV.org.
  • The Bridge the Gap Program addresses the overall physician shortage while creating pathways for underrepresented groups is essential for building a diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce capable of meeting the needs of all communities.
  • The History of Medicine in Maryland continues to research and promote our state and our organization’s long and storied place in medicine over the past four centuries. Our Archives are an important tool for medical researchers and genealogists around the world. Our Art Collection tracks both local medical luminaries and important regional artists over the past 300 years. While it is not well-known, it is one of the best private art collections in the area.
  • The Center for a Healthy Maryland is also responsible for helping to renovate and maintain our historical buildings.  These endeavors are done by using donations to the Sir. William Osler Building Maintenance Fund.

The Center also maintains social media and public relations platforms, as well as writes proposals for and administers grant-funded public and physician health programs.
