The Impact of Center for a Healthy Maryland

The Center for a Healthy Maryland (CHMD) focuses on strengthening the systems that shape health statewide through three interconnected program areas designed to improve healthcare workforce sustainability, trauma-informed care, and equitable access to healthcare careers

Programs that Equip Providers and
Partner for Positive Outcomes

CHMD also serves as a connector and catalyst between healthcare, public health, justice, and community systems to create integrated solutions that improve statewide health outcomes

Healthcare Workforce Well-Being

CHMD supports physicians facing behavioral health and substance use challenges through its Physician Health Program, which provides confidential support, recovery resources, and workforce sustainability initiatives.

Trauma-Informed Healthcare System

The Domestic Violence Prevention and Training Program equips healthcare providers to identify and respond to trauma and intimate partner violence in clinical settings. The program works to improve trauma-informed healthcare responses while strengthening partnerships across healthcare and community organizations.

Health Workforce Development

Through the Bridge the Gap initiative, CHMD creates pathways into healthcare careers for underrepresented Maryland youth. Programs include mentorships, internships, STEM workshops, and career readiness opportunities designed to build a stronger and more diverse healthcare workforce pipeline.
