Supporting Medical Students for a Healthier Future in Maryland
By focusing on students in marginalized and underserved areas, Bridge the Gap aims to reduce racial disparities in both health care workers as well as health disparities found in our communities.
Addressing the overall physician shortage while also creating pathways for underrepresented groups is essential for building a diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce capable of meeting the needs of all communities. Research has shown that approximately 14% of medical students have a parent or family member who is a doctor, and that underrepresented groups do not pursue medical degrees because of a lack of knowledge and exposure to health care careers. Mentoring can help to bridge this gap in knowledge and provide a role model relationship for those who do not have access to social connections that can help students prepare for medical careers.
Inspire. Mentor. Impact.
Our multi-generational leadership program connecting physicians, medical students, high school students, and middle school students helps build a stronger, healthier future for Maryland.
